Man in traditional Greek Orthodox clothing in front of a monastery with a dog by his feet

Pets are domesticated and semi-domesticated animals who live around people and are not assigned to daily work, produce milk, eggs, wool or any other animal produce and are not to be slaughtered. Depending on culture and tradition, just about every animal on the planet can be a pet to someone but not not every kind of animal is considered to be a common pet in every country.
