The <b>Blue Blowfly</b> (German:<b>Blaue Schmeißfliege</b>) is a common scavenger and important as an identifying species in forensics. Amongst the more common flies, <i>Calliphora vicina</i> really stands out in terms of size and color. While its bright blue colored thorax and abdomen aren't too well visible in bad lighting, because the back is partly covered by its wings, the size alone will make a lot of people drive them out of their homes in fear of it laying eggs. While I couldn't find any literature on that, I feel like this fly likes to be high up. I rarely see any of them on the ground and near small plants. I do, however, see them on high up balconies and roofs a lot, spending time sitting in the sun.
