Bank Vole hides between twigs

The small Bank Vole (German: Rötelmaus)is one of the most common mouse / vole to be found all around Europe but most commonly in Middle Europe, Germany, France, Poland and Austria. The little critter likes a colder continental climate and is one of the main food sources for birds of prey in forest areas.

Sam says

There are three main sources of noise from the ground in my mixed forest. Blackbirds, robins and these little things. Bank voles are everywhere. Their little holes are on paths, near the river bank, between fenced in tree saplings. From mid afternoon to late at night they can be seen and heard searching for food on the forest ground and they seem to feed on every kind of seed of edible plant part.
