Curious Carrion Crow on a roof

The Carrion Crow is a large black crow native to the mid and South of Europe and some parts of Asia. It deals well with the colder climate of countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland but has not spread to very cold countries like Norway and Sweden. Consequently it also can be found in warmer countries of South and South East Asia and is very rarely seen in Russia and the North.

Crows in my area are very clever and interact with humans in the city all the time. That goes for Corvus corone, Corvus cornix and their hybrid Corvus cornix x corone alike. They get used to waiting for food and treats and can be seen playing with pets such as cats and dogs without actually getting hurt. These crows eat just about anything you offer them but love peanuts, dry cat food and snacks like potato chips and peanut flips. They don't really show interest in fresh fruit and vegetables but would probably eat it, if there was nothing else available. When not feeding on human food scraps, they hunt for big insects, spiders and small mammals like the tiniest of mice. Carrion Crows living near the river can usually be seen also feeding on clams and small fish.
