About

A colorful Zebra dove pecking away at some colorful flowers

The Zebra Dove is a small dove species native to South East Asia that has been introduced to a few islands. It can be spotted in the Seychelles, Hawaii, French Polynesia and Mauritius. Their name stems from the color of their feathers that can be interpreted as closely striped. They live near and in settlements of any size and usually stay away from densely forested areas.

Zebra Doves live in pairs or small groups and feed on small seeds of any kind. As such they are an important species for seed dispersal in their native habitats. They seek out humans and like to nest in shrubbery and hedges around parks and gardens and are described as very gentle birds who don't usually fear people.
